Trigger Planting
Abortifacient and emmenagogue herbs planted above the 26 United States with Trigger Laws, near-total bans, six-week bans, and or State constitutional amendments that prohibit protections on abortion. Site-specific installation, installed in May 2022 for Frieze NY, with support from A.I.R. Gallery and National Women’s Liberation. On June 24th, 2022, the Supreme Court ruled 6—3 to uphold the Mississippi’s Gestational Age Act in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, overruling Roe v. Wade and ending constitutional protection to abortion care.
Made in collaboration with Kadambari Baxi and Maureen Connor. Following de-installation, each plant was transported and transplanted in the permanent garden installation, The Abortion Herb Garden, at Denniston Hill, Glen Wild, NY.
